Andy’s start into music began at a very young age. Tape recordings from when he was just 2 years of age proved he truly loved to sing. Later in his teens and early twenties, he sang with cousins Wesley Bales, Rachel Craig and Aaron Payne in the locally successful group Third Generation, and then with the harmonious quartet All for Him, which included Zack Conkel, Wesley Bales and his sister April Chaffins.
In 2006, Andy felt a calling on his life to start a young adult choir at Minford Nazarene in southern Ohio. Andy describes this time in his life as, “an absolute joy and a blessing from God”. Many lives were impacted through this ministry, and is still going strong today.
Now, Andy feels impressed to explore a solo ministry, and make music that glorifies Christ alone, edifies saints, and convicts sinners. “The Safe Side”, Andy’s debut project, is sure to minister to young and old alike. The title track includes a very special excerpt of a sermon from Andy’s late grandfather, Rev. Coy McGinnis, who passed away in 2007. Another heartfelt track, “You Give”, features harmony from sister April Chaffins, who by the grace of God survived a life-threatening car crash in February of 2007.
Andy’s music can be described as a mix between progressive southern gospel and contemporary. His musical influences range from The Good News, David Phelps, 4Him, The Martins, and Chris Tomlin.
